Mid-Island is quiet and residential, but don’t underestimate its nightlife—there’s an extremely diverse array of bars and eateries, from Italian and Greek to Chinese and Mexican. Max’s Esca is one of the best Italian restaurants in town. The energetic atmosphere with live music, Italian specialties and wines, and comfortable seating cultivates an amazing dining experience. If you get the chance, be sure to grab a seat in the garden patio for a perfectly romantic evening. Baci Ristorante is another esteemed, family-owned Italian eatery with cocktails that are out of this world. Their mouthwatering homestyle cooking and Old World feel speaks for itself. Also known as The Boulevard, Hylan Boulevard is a popular and dazzling street full of endless shopping opportunities. This premier downtown hub is the longest street in the city at approximately 14 miles long, so you won’t run out of things to see, do, or buy. Everyone in the area frequents the Staten Island Mall, which has dramatically transformed Mid-Island. This high-end, indoor one-stop shopping destination has luxury boutiques, brands that you love, a movie theatre, and everything in-between.
Things to Do
The Vanderbilt at South Beach is the perfect setting for planning special occasions. It’s Staten Island's only oceanfront ballroom, which boasts a vast space with beautiful carpeting, a marble dance floor, and dramatic ocean views with a gorgeous outdoor space. If you like to get outdoors, The Greenbelt is an incredible system of hiking trails to explore. It’s 31 miles long, winding through breathtaking ponds, nature parks, bluffs, beaches, and scenery. The 15-mile, one-way hike that makes up half of the bigger trail has rail transportation available at each end, making for a cool adventure. Located on Lighthouse Hill, Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art is home to one of the country’s most extensive collections of Himalayan artifacts and hosts weekly classes and events. Historic Richmondtown is an authentic town and farm museum complex with amazing activities and tours that are perfect for a family day out.
